Welcome to Westlands School

Welcome to our school. Here at Westlands we are determined to do our best to ensure that your child receives the best possible quality of education.

For the past few years the school has gained recognition in the community and from Ofsted for the outstanding quality of education we provide across the ability range.

Our pastoral system here at Westlands is simply second to none. We will do all within our power to ensure that all of our pupils feel safe and secure throughout their school life.

Westlands is a school that embodies a set of traditional values built upon mutual respect and hard work. We welcome all pupils and parents who subscribe to these values.

  • 30-03-2015 - Non-uniform Day

Wednesday 1 April will be a non-uniform day for Westlands School. Pupils are required to make a contribution of at least £1 for the privilege. The proceeds will be donated to the Wisdom Hospice.

  • 17-03-2015 - Medical Room

The medical room at Westlands is led by Mrs Cole, who is a trained first aider. Mrs Cole monitors those pupils who have care plans who require the support of the medical room, she supports pupils who need medication during the day and liaises with parents with regards to some medical conditions.

The medical room has a qualified first aider present at all times and a number of other staff are also first aid trained so they can support Mrs Cole as required.

During transition Mrs Cole compiles the medical list, using information provided by primary schools and by parents on the information booklets we ask them to complete. This is to support a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7.

  • 12-03-2015 - Parents' Forum

The Parents’ Forum meeting is calendared for Wednesday 18th March at 7pm in the school library. All parents are invited and refreshments are available. It is a good forum for parents to hear new initiatives in the school and to meet with a senior member of staff about any issues they wish to discuss. Your views and opinions are valued. If you are interested please email ag@westlands.kent.sch.uk

  • 13-02-2015 - Medical and Health Support for Pupils

We have a welfare assistant, Mrs Cole, who can support pupils with minor illness as it occurs in school such as a headache or a minor cut that needs a plaster. Mrs Cole can also issue medication to pupils where we have parental consent. If a pupil is unable to remain in school she will make contact with parents and ask them to make any necessary arrangements. Mrs Cole also monitors and supports pupils who have toilet passes.

Mrs Cole is not our school nurse, this often causes confusion. Our school nurse is Helen Sharman.

Helen Sharman can provide a range of services and provide support for more complex medical and health needs as well as liaise with other health professionals. Helen, our school nurse, can be contacted via the school through Mrs Fazakerley or you can seek her support directly through the contact details provided.
