Student Leadership

At Westlands School, we value student leadership as part of the overall enrichment of a young person's life, both within the wider curriculum and in supporting their leadership aspirations for future careers.

Being part of the Student Leadership Team supports students in developing important skills such as:

  • Communication

  • Teamwork

  • Resilience

  • Organisation

  • Reliability

  • Decision-making

At Westlands School, we believe that many students can demonstrate leadership skills in many different aspects of school life. Some examples of our Student Leadership opportunities are:

  • Head Boys for Years 7–10

  • Head Girls for Years 7–10

  • Student Ambassadors for Years 7–10

  • School Council Years 7-9

When our students are given the responsibility to lead in a variety of roles at Westlands School, they feel a sense of pride in contributing to the school community. This helps to create a positive and inclusive school environment where students are trusted, feel supported and are valued.

Celebrating Excellence: Introducing the Student Leadership Awards!

We are thrilled to launch the Student Leadership Awards across all Swale Academies Trust secondary schools, starting September 2025.

This new framework challenges and empowers our student leaders to achieve Bronze, Silver, or Gold recognition by completing a range of awards including: communication, achievement and respect.

This is more than just an award—it’s an opportunity for our top students to build essential skills, enhance their university applications, and gain high-level recognition.

The top two Gold-level student leaders from each school will be selected to present their leadership journey to the Swale Headteachers in Summer 2026.
