Welcome to Westlands School. If you are reading this message on our website, I would strongly advise you to come and visit us so that you can see for yourself what a great school we have. Academic progress, especially in literacy and numeracy, is a top priority. Results suggest that we are right to emphasise these key skills. The progress students make at Westlands School has been significantly above the national average for many years. This has been noted through successive OFSTED reports and in the Performance Tables year after year. The bottom line is that here at Westlands School we make a real difference to a student's learning.
At Westlands School we like to concentrate on success and reward students who excel. We understand that children make mistakes, but we expect them to take responsibility and deal with their actions. We have a traditional approach to behaviour and discipline and display our expectations in classrooms around the school. We expect students to show care, courtesy and consideration to both staff and other children.
I have worked at Westlands School for many years. In that time the school has grown considerably, technologies have advanced and expectations with regard to education have been transformed. We embrace change and move with the times. However, at the heart of any change is a core ethos of encouraging our students to do well in school and enabling them to succeed in the future. At Westlands School we have high aspirations for our students. We really do 'expect more' and we hope you do too.
Mr S Cox MA, Executive Headteacher
