Westlands started well with many opportunities to score but the Dane Court goalkeeper was having a superb game denying Westlands from getting the ball in the back of the net. Late in the first half Westlands were unlucky to have a goal disallowed. At half time with the score still 0-0 both teams came out still in the game.

Again Westlands applied pressure and dominated the game, but still couldn't manage to score pass Dane Court 's goalkeeper. However, when the ball was handled in the area Westlands were awarded a penalty, captain Alice Singyard stepped up and scored a well deserved goal.

Defending champions, Westlands, once again faced Bexleyheath in the U13 Kent Cup final at Dartford . Sadly for us there was to be no repeat of last year's triumph as Bexleyheath won 3-2. Westlands did not give up their crown easily and a late surge nearly rescued the game, but time ran out and Bexleyheath ran out deserved winners. They were the stronger team from the start with pace and power up front and before too long their pressure told and they took the lead as their centre forward prodded the ball home. Westlands hit back when Adelaide Ruskin was fouled in the area and Kit Graham put the penalty away.

U13 Girls 2009 Kent Cup Final
|
A mistake in the Westlands defence allowed Bexleyheath to re-take the lead and the game seemed out of touch when a wonderful strike extended the lead. However, Westlands would not give up and fought back strongly. Kit Graham, by far the best player on the pitch, was magnificent and inspired her team mates. Adelaide Ruskin was lively up front and Jemma Hook was proving more of a threat. Kit Graham's shot reduced it to 2-3, but Westlands could not grab the vital leveller. Indeed, only the safe hands of Matilda Butler prevented more goals being lost. |
The U13 Girls team went to the local round of the football league competition. The girls played exceptionally good football and came out worthy champions having won every game. This meant that the girls went through to the regional finals where they would represent Gillingham FC at Millwall FC's training ground. |
 |
At Millwall the girls were unlucky to lose their final game 1-0, but won the next 2 games and drew their final group game. This set up a semi-final with the team representing Charlton FC. Despite lots of pressure by the girls they were unable to score and lost the final game 1-0. |
A special congratulations goes to Kit Graham who has been selected as part of the England U15 pool of players. She has recently been to a training camp at Lillishall, and we hope she'll gain her first England Cap soon!
A great season for the girl's teams. Each player can be very proud of their achievements! Roll on next season! |
