Reading

Reading really matters at the Westlands School . It is taken very seriously because pupils with good reading skills find their school work easier and are likely to do better in exams.

The school library is stocked with some seriously good books, aimed to attract readers with a wide range of abilities and interests.

There are huge selections of fiction books which appeal to the teenage market, as well as ‘tried and tested' favourites that never go out of fashion.

With the non-fiction section covering all curriculum based subjects the library really does have it all.

Your Reading Age

Because reading is taken so seriously, we want YOU to do it!

We want you to enjoy reading and we want you to make good progress. Your reading age will be tested twice during the school year and you will be able to compare your two results and will know that you are making good, steady progress.

Rewarding your Reading

Reading regularly is important.

At the Westlands School we will reward your regular reading with Reading Credits. This is a scheme which literally pays you to read !

Full details are available in your Reading Record Book.

Reading Awards

By keeping a record of what you're reading we will be able to present you with certificates. Starting with Bronze and working your way through Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond we will enjoy your company at the Awards Presentation with Mr. Whitcombe. You will also be entered into a prize draw!

I Can't Find a Good Book Miss…

With two full-time members of staff on hand to help you, we hope that we never hear you say this! If you need some help, or can't find what you're looking for then please ask!

Also if you have enjoyed a book or can recommend some really good reading material that we should have in the library, please share your ideas with us.

All That's Left to Say…

is get reading!! And we look forward to seeing you in the Westlands School Library!
