GCSE Dance

Dance is part of core PE and the girls' complete one unit based around choreography as part of their short course GCSE PE .

GCSE Dance runs as a separate subject in Year 10 and pupils can opt to take up the subject. There are 3 lessons a week dedicated to GCSE Dance and the course is divided up in to the following units.

Unit 1

Actions, space, dynamics, and relationships

What these are and why they are important to dance

Unit 2

Professional works and their movement vocabulary

Study professional choreographers works and develop movements in their style, and how they portray an idea, character or feeling through movement

Unit 3

Performance skills

Creating a performance piece to be coursework

 

Unit 4

Motif creation & development, set work

What is a motif and how do you use them to create choreography. Study the set work considering lighting, costume, physical setting and aural accompaniment.

Unit 5

Set study

Teach the set study

 

Unit 6

Chorographical skills

A round up of all the work covered so far, it aims to prepare the pupils for the choreography task

 

Unit 7

Professional works

Study works other than the set work, considering physical features and interpretative features

 

Unit 8

Second performance piece

Create a second piece so that pupils have a choice of which piece they will perform in the final exam

Unit 9

Choreography, EPN and performance

This begins to tie up loose ends of all the coursework ready for the moderation day

Unit 10

Moderation and theory exam

This unit concentrates on final preparation for moderation day and the theory exam
