
GCSE Dance Dance is part of core PE and the girls' complete one unit based around choreography as part of their short course GCSE PE . GCSE Dance runs as a separate subject in Year 10 and pupils can opt to take up the subject. There are 3 lessons a week dedicated to GCSE Dance and the course is divided up in to the following units. |

Unit 1 Actions, space, dynamics, and relationships What these are and why they are important to dance |

Unit 2 Professional works and their movement vocabulary Study professional choreographers works and develop movements in their style, and how they portray an idea, character or feeling through movement |
Unit 3 Performance skills Creating a performance piece to be coursework

Unit 4 Motif creation & development, set work What is a motif and how do you use them to create choreography. Study the set work considering lighting, costume, physical setting and aural accompaniment. |

Unit 5 Set study Teach the set study

Unit 6 Chorographical skills A round up of all the work covered so far, it aims to prepare the pupils for the choreography task

Unit 7 Professional works Study works other than the set work, considering physical features and interpretative features

Unit 8 Second performance piece Create a second piece so that pupils have a choice of which piece they will perform in the final exam |
Unit 9 Choreography, EPN and performance This begins to tie up loose ends of all the coursework ready for the moderation day |
Unit 10 Moderation and theory exam This unit concentrates on final preparation for moderation day and the theory exam |
